This is Oh My Blog! A brand new monthly interview series featuring a whole host of fellow bloggers. Each month, we’ll be bringing you different themed posts showcasing the very best bloggers out there. This month, the questions are based on the fitting February topic of love!
This month, we’re meeting Amy from The Mighty Duxburys.
- Tell us about yourself and your blog.
I’m Amy! I’m 28 and I blog (well, it’s mostly just me but hubs occasionally will stick his oar in with a post) over at The Mighty Duxburys. I write about pretty much anything with a focus on family life, food and general lifestyle bits and bobs. I also work full-time as a lawyer alongside the blog, so spare time is kind of hard to come by for now.
- What is your current relationship status?
Married! Rather happily so, in fact. We celebrated our first wedding anniversary in November with a three-day trip to Bruges. Spent one of the days very drunk, and another very hungover. Money well spent of course.
- Do you ever celebrate Valentine’s’ Day?
Celebrate…? Eh, I mean we’ve done stuff on the odd Valentine’s Day but really? Nah. He’s lucky if he gets a card to be frank (I hate cards, but that’s another rant for another time). Our first one was pretty special, but after that it’s sort of been nice but not big. We went out for a meal like, two years ago, does that count?
- It’s your first date! Where do you go?
Ahah, our “first date” if you could call it that was at a McDonald’s in Manchester. I stuffed my face with a Sausage and Egg McMuffin and he had nothing. Wes doesn’t do breakfast. I bet I was super desirable. Our first proper date was actually at a stand up comedy show… we were at the front. They asked how long we’d been together and how we met. Lied on both counts. I was not prepared to tell a comedian that we’d met on the internet and we’d been together a week.
- What’s the most romantic thing anyone has ever done for you?
Our first Valentine’s Day, Wes made me a flipbook of a little stick person story – a dramatic retelling of our first 6 months or so together. Filmed it and uploaded it to YouTube, got some amazing music in the background music. It was five years ago and even thinking about it still makes me tear up. It was so amazing… I will never forget it, ever. He peaked too soon though because he won’t ever be able to live up to it (unless he whisks me off on a nice cruise or something).
- What is your favourite romantic film? Cheesier the better.
Jesus. I’m not good at films… I’ve not really got the attention span for them. Does the first five minutes of Up! count as a romantic movie? Because that’s adorable and makes me cry every time.
- Spill the beans! Who’s your celebrity crush?
Eh. I don’t really have celebrity crushes anymore… being an adult and stuff. I used to like wrestling when I was younger (I know you’re judging me. Stop it.) so a fair few of the gentlemen in that area of entertainment caught my eye. Nowadays, Wes and I just wind up commenting on how “good looking’ people are. I guess the nearest I get to a celebrity crush these days is probably Chris Pratt… because you would, wouldn’t you?
- Flowers are pretty popular at this time of year. Do you like receiving them or do they really not float your boat?
If you had asked me two years ago, I’d have said that flowers really aren’t floating my boat at all. You get them, you put them in a pot and then you leave them to die. Recently however I’ve been receiving quite a lot of flowers for various reasons and you know what? They’re pretty. And I rather like pretty things, so yeah. Bring ‘em on. Those electric blue orchids you see in M&S all the time especially, they’re awesome.
- Do you have children? Do you want any (or any more)?
Just the one (and he is more than enough). Short Rib (not his birth name) is about to turn 18 months old. Loves the word “No” because he hasn’t learned “Yes” or “Why” yet. No, I don’t want another one. I always thought I would but no, we’re tapping out at one – he’ll be alright, don’t be sad. We’ll spoil the hell out of him.
- What would be (or was) your choice of song for your first dance at your wedding?
We absolutely dreaded having a first dance… like, wanted to not have one but we were told in no uncertain terms that this is not socially acceptable. So we chose “So Far Gone” by Thousand Foot Krutch. Nobody there knew it, and in the middle of the dance the power cut out. Twice. It was joyful… really took the edge off a part of the evening neither of us were too fussed about.
- Do you have any plans yet for Valentine’s Day 2017?
Nah. Not sure we will do either. It’s on a Tuesday! Blergh! We can’t even have a Chinese because it’s bleedin’ shut. So we’ll be at home, playing video games and eating a healthy Slimming World meal. Oh, the life we lead…
- Raw oysters are pretty famous for being an aphrodisiac. Have you ever tried them?
I genuinely cannot think of anything less appetising (let alone sexy) than a raw oyster. Seeing the TV chefs down them like shots makes me gag. For their looks alone, I have never and will never try a raw oyster. If Wes does (which he won’t, because unlike me he hates seafood) then we are sleeping in separate rooms. Urgh!
- Imagining money’s no object, where would you go for a romantic getaway?
Hmmm. Disney World (my answer for everything) or maybe a Disney Cruise! I hear they’re doing one to the Norwegian Fjords this year, so that’d be pretty awesome. I’ve always wanted to go to that part of the world. Sadly, in the real world, money is definitely an object, so that will have to wait.
- What’s the best Valentine’s gift you’ve ever received?
See my answer to question 5. Not sure how anyone can really top that.
- Finally, what is the number one most important thing you value in a relationship?
Hmmm. Just comfort. Being so comfortable with someone that you can sit in the same room with them and be silent, doing your own thing, but you know that if the other person wasn’t there you wouldn’t feel right. I used to think that was us running out of stuff to talk about and that worried me, but really it’s just nice to be totally okay not doing anything with the person you love.
